"Conversations
Captured
Moments"
Now a resident
of South Florida, Rafael Vazquez was born and raised in New York
City. His early artistic influences derived from the city internationally
recognized as the leading center of cultural and artistic learning.
Combining his early educational influences with international
travel during his service in the United States Air Force, Rafael's
art developed into a unique expression of his visual experiences
and intellectual curiosity.
Although Vazquez
is a versatile artist skilled in a variety of styles, his art
is not about imitating his surroundings in the conventional sense.
It is about the experience of "being," a conscious attempt
at capturing a moment lived. With a masterful use of media and
techniques combined with a literary eye to narrative detail, Vazquez
has a unique vision that reaches the very essence of his subject
matter. Such 'visions' are currently displayed in a show simply
titled "Conversations
Captured Moments by Rafael Vazquez" running through April 15 at RaZoo GaLLeRy.

Not tied to form
or convention, Vasquez at times crosses mediums by attaching frayed
pages of poetry torn from a book to a painted canvas to underscore
the crossings and connections that inexorably binds visual art,
the written word, and the often quiet lives we lead. The artist
also enjoys revisiting familiar themes, with each consecutive
canvas taking a slightly different visual approach to subject.
The result reflects the sometimes unsubtle nuances often produced
by one's own jaundiced perspective, begging the viewer to reassess
his own notions and perhaps see the world differently.
Frequently art
should be a mirror. In the large oil on canvas titled "the
Conversation," the viewer sweeps along in the flow of an
interlocking puzzle of abstract characters filling the frame before
realizing that this is just the way our petty rumors, misconceptions,
small falsehoods and sometimes outright lies command our very
being.

It would be a mistake
to consider the paintings on display as purely psycho-cerebral
exercises. The work is full of life, energy, and color. "Muses
#I" draws from classical themes to create a flowing dance
of ethereal, yet understated earthiness that begs us to feel rather
than merely think. Although this artist' muses may be faceless,
in this case they are far from being unrecognizable as they frolic
in an organic Verde universe. They subtly remind us that the essential
driving force of life is not fear or pain but hope.
