A relative new comer to the local art scene, Paul is a native Floridian raised among New Yorkers. He discovered he loved color and drawing during his fourth grade of Catholic school when he first started designing football helmets and football uniforms instead of learning his prayers. Paul was a good student who didn't have to try hard, but was easily bored. Doodling became his passion. In high school, he became known for his prankster parodies caricaturing his environment. Countless notebooks filled with drawings testify to this.
Desiring to become a History teacher, Paul attended Florida State University largely because he loved their colorful football uniforms. Finding the dry academic life lonely and depressing, he again turned to creative outlets by writing poetry, drawing, constructing collages, and turning to his real love-art.
Mordente has found his artistic 'voice'. Although Paul works in a variety of media creating collage-books, pastel and watercolor paintings, it is his edgy and energetic large-format mixed-media paintings on board that command attention.
