Luther Broome Jr. started painting
at an early age and garnered first sales and award recognition
at age 15. He received
a Masters Degree in Design at Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, but rebelled
at the norms of the art establishment and stayed true to a personal
vision
by working in a more natural
style.
Despite disagreements with the accepted academic notion of what
constitutes art culture, he has taught at college level and been
shown in many galleries and museums around the country. He always
works figuratively, but prefers a "primitive" approach employing
a bold use of color and texture 'voiced' in his own signature
style.
Spending his formative
years near the center of the American entertainment industry affected
Luther's subsequent personal
_expression and choice of subject matter. This is manifested with
the use of bright, unmixed colors, popular cultural icons, and
a willingness to invoke themes and images not generally associated
with mainstream art.
Luther has been painting continuously
for over forty-five years and has produced a significant body
of work. Luther's works have been
collected extensively throughout the U.S. Already thought
to be of investment quality, Luther's work combines unique color usage with the
incorporation of his offbeat sense of humor, and he has always
been ahead of his time regarding subject matter. Luther's unique visions
on board, canvas or any other available medium will delight and
make you laugh at the world we live in.
